We had a wonderful stay. It’s very well located, the rooms are comfy and have everything you need and the lodge is nicely decorated with antiques showing a glimpse of the history of the building.
They just opened a cafe in the common area where they serve excellent coffee and delicious cakes.
Finally, the manager was very welcoming. He is a very well educated man and he seems to know most if not all of the restaurants in the area so be sure to follow his advice if you want to truly get to know what Penang has to offer!

Great Hospitality

Stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Penang. This place is located in an old colonial building in the historical center. Most of Georgetown attractions are within walking distance. The room was just average but comfortable. The hospitality of the staff was great. The manager greeted me with recommendations and a map marked with the best stops. There would be fresh flowers in my room everyday and the staff brought me complimentary afternoon tea. I am happy that I stayed here!

Lovely little heritage house in the heart of George Town

Well-maintained heritage house in the middle of all the best places to eat in George Town! The real asset of Betel Nut Lodge though is the owner himself who told us wonderful stories of George Town, of turning his teenage dream of running a hotel a reality and who was also kind enough to prepare a map of all the must eats in George Town. Hands down would definitely, definitely stay here again the next time we come for a visit!

Good value, hospitality, and a great location!

Warm, friendly, and engaging staff made my stay at Betel Nut especially delightful. They run a relaxed, yet professional, small establishment close to George Town’s most famous and iconic tourist (and locals) destinations. Best of all, each of the 4 people I interacted with at the hotel took time to insure my comfort –from bringing iced coffee up to my room when I returned to the lodge hot and sweaty, to making sure I had lists of places to dine and historic locations to visit before I walked out the front door each morning. The Lodge is spotlessly clean and comfortable. My twin bed room had soft, bleach free linens, comfortable pillows, and mattresses that offered great support. In room AC and ceiling fan kept me cool. Water pressure was surprisingly good in the charming older building the hotel resides in. The breakfast room is quaint, and set up to encourage interactions between guests at their single, large dining table. Breakfast itself is very basic, but somehow the endless pot of fresh coffee, toast with a honey-like Malay spread, and a piece or two of fresh fruit each morning was a perfect way to start the day on a light note. Best of all, while I was staying there all the guests picked up on the Betel Nut’s warm vibe and chatted like old friends. It was certainly the warmest engagement I’ve had with other guests in a hotel or B&B in years, and a reflection of the welcoming environment the Betel Nut provides. If warmth, comfort, security, and peace of mind, are priorities when travelling (vs. luxury amenities, grand lobbies, and swimming pools), the Betel Nut is an excellent choice. I highly recommend it.

Great location, walking distance from all sights and restaurants. The guys who man the reception desk are truly amazing. They’ll tell you where to eat which dish in this foodie-heaven, and will do everything in their power to make your stay memorable. Cups of tea and pastries after you’ve come back to your hotel at night, tea parties for guests with traditional sweets on the side during the afternoon and a friendly smile every time you leave or enter the hotel. Rooms are comfortable and very very clean – great value for money.

Assolutamente tutto: la posizione fantastica, lo stile unico della struttura a dir poco splendida, la pulizia e la cura della camera. Ma l’aspetto migliore è sicuramente la gentilezza e la cura verso l’ospite del proprietario e di tutto lo staff… all’arrivo ci hanno spiegato cartina alla mano dove fossero i vari punti di interesse e come raggiungerli, ogni giorno ci sono state offerti deliziosi pasticcini, bevande e tè, ci hanno permesso di stare fino a tarda sera nella zona comune per aspettare il bus e di usare un bagno con doccia per rinfrescarci prima della partenza. Ciliegina sulla torta: sapendo che ci attendeva un lungo viaggio ci hanno preparato una snack box con acqua e dolci nel caso avessimo avuto fame.Eccezionali!!

Die Zimmer sind zwar nicht übermäßig groß, aber absolut sauber. Wir waren zwei Nächte im Hotel und haben unser Zimmer am Morgen etwas unordentlich hinterlassen. Als wir zurückkamen, war es super ordentlich aufgeräumt und alles wieder sehr liebevoll dekoriert. Das Personal ist super nett, Tipps für die Stadt sind selbstverständlich. Es gab als Willkommenssnack einen kleinen Kuchen und grünen Tee. Die Stadtkarte ist bereits vorbereitet, gute Essensmöglichkeiten sind eingezeichnet und werden auch nochmal ausführlich erklärt. Wir haben uns super wohlgefühlt und würden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen!
