Betel Nut Lodge was conceived more than 20 years ago – to create a small heritage hotel that may also be a space for Civic and Arts Events.

In its heyday, the original 2-storey building (built in 1870s) was used variously as a family residence, an office & a tile shop. But, it was its last use as a birds’ nesting farm in 1990s that caused untold damage – and the building lay derelict for about 15 years.

Conforming strictly to UNESCO’s guidelines for Adaptive Re-use, our building’s restoration involved much research, sourcing of heritage materials and countless engagements with artisans and heritage experts.

Strategically located in the heart of George Town, this once-derelict property has now been meticulously restored. So, come experience our grand old dame of a building, its rich history and rejuvenation that has been more than 20 years in the making!
