Arriving at
Penang International Airport.
Arriving at Penang’s Bayan Lepas Airport, buy a Taxi Voucher to Betel Nut Lodge (Address: 100, Lebuh Melayu. George Town) ONLY from the official Airport Taxi Services Counter just outside the arrival gate, near door No.2 (See photo of Airport Taxi counter). The taxi fare costs about RM45 (for travel between 7 am to 11 pm. Outside these hours, the fare is 50% more). The taxi takes about 30 minutes to reach our lodge with normal traffic.
There are rapidPenang public buses (not shuttle), that connect the airport to KOMTAR, central George Town. Our hotel is about 1km from KOMTAR. The buses to take are rapid Penang, buses 401, 401E, and 102. Buses 401E are the faster buses and take just over one hour to reach KOMTAR, with normal traffic. Tickets cost about RM5 and are sold on the bus – no change is given so the correct fare is needed. The first bus is at 6 am and the last bus about 10 pm, running roughly every 30 minutes in frequency. Post-pandemic, please check the bus timetable on your arrival at the airport.
Arriving by
Train / Butterworth Ferry.
Upon arriving at Butterworth station, stroll through Penang Sentral to access the Butterworth ferry terminal, merely 500 meters away. This terminal facilitates a seamless journey for passengers, as they embark on a ferry to traverse the scenic route to the captivating destination of George Town.
Ferries run approximately hourly from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm. The fare is RM2, and only TnG cards are accepted. If you don’t have a TnG card, purchase your ticket with a credit card at the counter; no cash is accepted.
The new ferry service started in August 2023; Consider checking the latest daily timetable for any updates. After reaching the George Town side, the Betel Nut Lodge is 1200 meters away. A taxi from the ferry terminal costs about RM15 to Betel Nut Lodge.
Arriving By
Bus
If you have taken the intercity bus that terminates at Butterworth terminal (i.e. Not Penang island), go to the Butterworth Ferry terminal and take the ferry to George Town. Important to Note that the Ferry operations use a CASHLESS system and No cash is accepted for ticket purchases. Once on George Town’s side of the ferry terminal, Betel Nut Lodge is 1200 meters away ( Please see above “Arriving by Train” for ferry schedule/tickets information ).
MOSTLY, Intercity buses to Penang island stop at Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal, about 8 km away from our Lodge. The taxi fare is about RM30 from this terminal to our lodge. One can also take the public rapid Penang Bus 102 from this bus terminal to KOMTAR and walk 1km from KOMTAR to our Lodge.
Arriving By
Car
We suggest the useful app Waze (or Google Maps) if you are driving to our hotel. This app can be downloaded on mobile phones. Kindly note that private car parking is NOT available on our premises. Car parking is public street parking that costs about RM7 per day (except Sundays & Public holidays when it’s free). Generally, it’s easier to find car parking spaces in front or near our Lodge after 2 pm (after the two well-known eateries nearby close).
Private Airport Transfers
Private car transfer from Penang Airport direct to Betel Nut Lodge can be arranged although it’s subject to availability. It must be booked in advance. Generally, the costs of a private transfer is at least double that of the Official airport taxi – so we advise that guests use the convenient 24 hour Official airport taxi facility.
